                         Empregou-se o aluminato de s{\'o}dio como material de partida. 
                         Dois precursores de hidr{\'o}xido de alum{\'{\i}}nio foram 
                         produzidos: um corresponde {\`a} fase gibbsita, obtido a partir 
                         da decomposi{\c{c}}{\~a}o {\'a}cida do aluminato de s{\'o}dio 
                         em presen{\c{c}}a de CO2, e outro {\`a} fase boehmita, obtido a 
                         partir da rea{\c{c}}{\~a}o entre o aluminato de s{\'o}dio e 
                         {\'a}cido n{\'{\i}}trico. Tais precursores originaram as 
                         aluminas de transi{\c{c}}{\~a}o ap{\'o}s tratamento 
                         t{\'e}rmico a 600oC. Os produtos foram caracterizados por 
                         volumetria de nitrog{\^e}nio, intrus{\~a}o de merc{\'u}rio, 
                         espectroscopia de absor{\c{c}}{\~a}o at{\^o}mica, difratometria 
                         de raios-X e microscopia eletr{\^o}nica de varredura. A atividade 
                         catal{\'{\i}}tica foi avaliada na rea{\c{c}}{\~a}o de 
                         decomposi{\c{c}}{\~a}o do isopropanol. ABSTRACT: Active aluminas 
                         were prepared from aluminum hydroxide under distinct conditions of 
                         synthesis in order to evaluate them in the catalytic decomposition 
                         of isopropanol. Sodium aluminate was employed as the starting 
                         material. Two hydroxide precursors were produced: one 
                         corresponding to gibbsite stage, obtained from the acid 
                         decomposition of the sodium aluminate in the presence of CO2, and 
                         the other corresponding to the boehmite stage, obtained from the 
                         reaction between sodium aluminate and nitric acid. Such precursors 
                         originated active aluminas after thermal treatment at 600ºC, which 
                         were characterized by nitrogen physical adsorption and mercury 
                         insertion, X-rays diffractometry, thermogravimetry, electronic 
                         microscopy and spectroscopy of atomic absorption. The catalytic 
                         activity was evaluated in the isopropanol decomposition 
                         reaction.",
